admission

My first sketch in this new year. 'O' level result was released last Monday. JAE, or Joint admission exercise for entry into the local polytechnics was held from Tuesday to Friday. The teaching staff seen here was having a quick discussion with a fashion senior student in between the course advisements. Last year, I also did a sketch during the JAE period, it is here.

Jago Close

Jago Close

Jago Close is very near to where I live - just about 5-10 mins away if I drive. It is not a place of significance or importance but for food hoppers like us, it is a must come, just for the sake of its stir fried carrot cakes (rice flour), "black"; or "white";. Black means rice flour stir fried in dark swert soya sauce, white means stir fried with egg.

something different - pencil sketches

I have been back from Korea for about two weeks but could not find time earlier to post my travel sketches. Here are three very quick pencil sketches of the folk drumers and the Bongeunsa Temple, Seoul, Korea.

Other sketches of my trip are here.

Upper Changi Road and Siglap Connector

Upper Changi Road & Siglap Connector
Before I live here, I have never imagined how this place may look like. When the entire island of Singapore clamors for upgrading and building taller high-rises, places such as this has retained its original state for many years. I am really amazed by some of the buildings here that have not given way to condos and shopping mall. Spiral stairwells and jaded windows that reveals their eras and how long they have been around. So after lunch today I decided to linger a little longer to sketch the back of one building, which looks more like one that could only be found in steam punk comics. This is gonna be fun. I should be exploring the surrounding areas in the near future.

Coffeeshop Talk Uncles

Coffeeshop Talk Uncles

We coined conversations held in coffeeshops, coffeeshop talks. Usually coffeeshop talks are carried out by, stereotypically, uncles, middle aged men who are either cab drivers or blue collars. The conversations span from politics to domestic squabbles. It is usually fun to listen to them but there is no need to trust everything they say. Most of the time, such conversations would be passed on from one to another. In no time, news about so and so would be spread throughout the country. It takes 2 hours to pass a single piece of news around the island!!

Here's the actual location and shot with sketch in view:
