Sunday dinner

Speed sketching before they left at one of my favourite dinner places; the corner of Joo Chiat Place and Still Road. Although I have sketched at the same place before on the bottom right, I have not been sketching much lately on Muji Sketchbook.

Teaching Urban Sketching

Together with Paul, Marvin and Jenny, we started teaching part time at SUTD - Singapore University of Technology and Design on every Friday afternoon for this semester. Here the students were busy working on 'intuitive drawing' looking at twigs, rocks and leaves exploring textures and shapes. This is to allow them to gain some foundation and confidence before bringing them out for urban sketching later!

Teaching part time while having a full time job is really challenging this semester but I am very happy as I am doing things that I really like!

kitchen with a view

ODP has been around for a while in Tiong Bahru area next to Bookactually but it was my first visit to the restaurant. ODP means Open Door Policy. I was sitting at the counter with a clear view into the kitchen through the big piece of glass. This sketch took me less than 20 minutes and people inside and outside the kitchen were visibly shocked at the speed and pleased at the final result.

on the plane

It can be very bored on the plane. I did two sketches from Singapore to Hong Kong and one more on our way back. I quite like the last one when the baby was fast asleep in his mother's arms.

at Jin Wee again

My favourite dinner place near home. What else? Fish steamboat again on a humid evening. I was perspiring the whole time but could not resist the fish soup. Yummy!

Inside the plane

On my way to and fro Hong Kong. It was the first time that my husband and I were taking Tiger Airways from Budget Terminal. The experience was quite pleasant. We paid for food and drink on the plane. The top one was done on Muji Sketchbook and the bottom one was a travel sketchbook handmade by Ketta Linhares whom I met in Lisbon last July.

Marusui Fish Market at Vivo City

Tonight was Japanese meal at Vivo City for me, I did a sketch at Marusui Fish Market. The sketch also brought a big smile to the waitress on the right.

at Jin Wee, a coffee shop in Siglap

My husband and I love the charcoal fish head steamboat at Jin Wee Coffee Shop in Siglap.

Lunch at Jack's Place

I had a fall last week so I was on pain killers. I felt better in the afternoon and I went to Jack's Place for lunch with my son who was dropping his overdued library books. At Jack's Place, the Christmas decorations were up and we met Mr Tang Guan Bee, the respectable architect who sat next to our table. He was so gracious to pay for our lunch. Great company.

Skinny Pizza

Black in colour, the squid seafood pizza was so good! After splashing some coffee, I started a sketch. Teety from Skinny Pizza, Raffles City was so in awe when she saw me sketching her restaurant. She repeatedly said "my god" like more than 10 times.... Ha!

My people and cafe sketches on Muji Sketchbook were interrupted in the month of May and Jun when the sketchbook was out of stock. So I restarted the Muji Sketchbook project in July. The cost of each sketchbook increased from S$4.90 to S$5.90, a 20% increase. These sketches were done primarily in July and all in one sketchbook.

Prawn Noodle

I took a half day leave in the afternoon and drove to Thomson Road for my lunch. I saw this crowded coffee shop just opposite Novena Catholic Church so I decided to check it out. From the newspaper clippings on the wall, I realised that this coffee shop was hailed as having the legendary prawn noodle from Whitley Road! So I ordered a bowl of dry noodles with medium size prawn and a cup of coffee. The verdict : I like it very much especially the soup.

Chocolate Bar at VivoCity

Max Brenner, the chocolate bar at Vivo City, has the warm and yummy chocolate fudge called Souffle that cost S$16.00 - expensive but just right for three of us with Macchiato Double and Cappuccino Frappe served in Alice cup, hug mug and kangaroo cup; aesthetically pleasing and well designed mugs. Like most of my cafe and people sketches, people came and gone so I had to sketch in quick lines and completed it with memory. My daughter sitting right in front of me became the model in this sketch.
