Location Drawings Everyday

Hi Y'all,
I have placed a slideshow that I came across in the Urban Sketchers blog. It is about a gallery show that features location sketches like what we have been doing.

I am very impressed by how the sketchbooks are displayed for public viewing. If you watch the slideshow you will see it. I have been thinking of how we can display our sketchbooks for public viewing too, without having them destroyed or torn. We are all very wary of how unthoughtful we as Asians can be.

Anyway I would love to hear from you guys on your views too.

  1. But he's displaying it in a gallery, which pretty much protects the works.

I'm thinking of something like compiling all the work on the blog after a year and see what we've got -- something like An Illustrated Life. That would be cool.

  3. You're probably all aware that Moleskinne sketchbooks have been displayed at Books Kino, Page One Vivo City, and Books Actually did one about 4 years ago too. The shows were organized as travelling exhibits by Moleskinne, and the books were placed in plexi-glass holders so they couldn't be stolen. People were encouraged to wear surgeon's gloves when they turned the pages.
For us, I think a gallery venue might be the best, otherwise someone has to 'show sit' the sketchbooks & loose drawings if they're in an open public area like a mall or shop. Sure, that's good exposure, but it also increases the risk of works being stolen.

  4. On a related note, they are running a "Sketchbook Project" in the US where each artist is issued with the same moleskin notebook and it is up to them to fill them up and send them in. The collection of sketches will then go on tour. The way they are going to tag the sketchbooks so that you knew how many times someone picked up your sketchbook is pretty interesting.
