Balestier Road is the location for an ad-hoc sketchwalk yesterday. I joined the group in the afternoon after lunch at Loy Kee Chicken Rice. The row of shophouses was built in 1926 by a female developer, Mdm Sim Cheng Neo. It was designed by the architect firm of Westerhout and Oman. It is also called Sim Kwong Ho building as the name is inscribed on the front parapet of the building. The modern building on the right is Balestier Point built in 1986. It is an award winning building which derives its inspiration from Habitat 67 designed by renowned architect Moshe Safdie in Montreal, Canada who is the architect for the Marina Bay Sands at Marina Bay of Singapore.
