Little India in squares

Drawn with the Safari Lamy fountain pen and Noodler's ink. Great combination.

These are 10cm squares which are quite small, and hence difficult to draw on. I cut the 12 by 9 inch Daler Rowney watercolour paper to this format.

I drew the lines there (about 30-45 minutes each) and coloured at home.

brown paper sketchbook $3

Hi sketchers,

I've bought quite a lot of brown paper at home which I use to draw on. More than enough. So I've decided to wrap them with a nice cover, staple and razor trim them so they can be used as sketchbooks. There are 9 folded brown paper sheets in total (that gives you 36 pages to draw on) around 135gsm thick, I think. A5 size. paper holds ink, pencils and paint pretty well. And they are good for techniques that use whites on a darker surface.

If anyone is interested in owning one, I'm gonna sell them for $3 each. (the price of a plate of hawker fried kway teow). Since I will be making them one by one and by hand, I'd like to take a pre-order in the comments section before I start production. I will make one for you only if you put your name down in the comments section to confirm your purchase. I will hand you the sketchbooks at our next sketchwalk.

Merlion crowded with tourists

Sketchwalk at One Fullerton (16 Jul 2011)
I can't believe this place is more crowded than a market.

The tones were added with the Derwent Graphitone. The background was done too hastily. I should not have applied the graphite to the paper since it's not totally soluble. And I forgot to bring a bigger brush, hence the background isn't very even.

I'm into square composition nowadays.

Sketches of Tiong Bahru

Participated in the second Tiong Bahru Sketchwalk organized by White Canvas Gallery in conjunction with the Tiong Bahru Revisited Exhibition featuring Tia, Don, Miel, Paul & friends (yours truly is one of friends with 2 sketches).

I decided to have a little change of style.  Instead of the usual ink and watercolour washes, I used 6B graphite pencil and watercolour (on Fabriano Artistico Rough 300 gsm), and I quite like the effect.

After that, a few of us went to Tiong Bahru Plaza food court for dinner, and I did a quick sketch the drinks seller and a customer with 6B graphite pencil .
