Found Sketch and Painting.... Temple along Magazine Road

Yes, another found pen & ink drawing that I did this year Feb when I drove pass this temple located along Magazine Road. I stopped the car beside the temple and wanted to get out of the car to sketch. Then I realized it was so hot and sunny I decided to stay in the car. So I finished the line work in the car in about 40mins. I painted the drawing a few days later in the studio. It is still unfinished but I decided to leave it that way. It was only recently I found it stacked among the unused watercolor papers on my shelf. I almost forgot I did this.

August Sketchwalk @ Geylang Serai, 27th Aug 2011

Despite the rain and the presidential voting, about 35 of us turn up to sketch the soon to be demolished Malay Village at Geylang Serai. We also sketched the very festive bazaar near the new Geylang Serai Market before settling down for lunch. Thank you everyone for turning up and for the amazing job you did on Saturday!

I managed 4 quick thumbnail sketches despite having to answer my phone several times to give help to stranded sketchers. The terrible humidity that came after the rain did not help too.

Malacca Trip

My first real trip to any part of Malaysia for a getaway. Malacca seemed to be the obvious choice, being a short distance away and being part of UNESCO heritage ....

SKETCHWALK AUGUST

Dear sketchwalkers, the upcoming sketchwalk for this month will be at Geylang Serai, this saturday. Some of us did an adhoc sketchwalk there recently, but they didn't cover everything. And some of us could not make it. So now you have one more chance to capture the preparations for the upcoming Hari Raya Puasa.

The sketchwalk leader for this event will be Paul. Please look out for him at the main PAYA LEBAR MRT control station (not the circle line) at 10AM sharp.  We will start later as this will give us time to vote (polling day) before or after the sketchwalk. From there, we will make our way to the area of the malay village and Joo Chiat Shopping Complex. (See map.) We will meet again at 1PM for lunch and "show and tell" (lunch location to be revealed at event) If you can't find us or have any questions, please call Paul 97923622

Three prizes, again, to be given away for August's sketchwalk.

You must be attending to be eligible for this giveaway. I'll announce the winners during the sketchwalk. If you aren't around, then I'll give it to the next lucky person on the list.

Just post a comment on which prize you want to win. You can choose all, but you can only win one.

Here are the prizes.

WInsor & Newton Watercolor Portable Sets
Winsor & Newton Cotman Metal Sketchers' Box (24 half pans)
It doesn't come with the packaging, and I've accidentally scratched the front cover a bit. It's worth $60.

It's actually a review set, barely used.

Prawn Noodle

110811_PrawnMee

IMG_7640I took a half day leave in the afternoon and drove to Thomson Road for my lunch. I saw this crowded coffee shop just opposite Novena Catholic Church so I decided to check it out. From the newspaper clippings on the wall, I realised that this coffee shop was hailed as having the legendary prawn noodle from Whitley Road! So I ordered a bowl of dry noodles with medium size prawn and a cup of coffee. The verdict : I like it very much especially the soup.

This sketch is also the last page of the Muji Sketchbook size: 130 x 130mm.

Adhoc Sketchwalk, Saturday 13/08 @ Paya Lebar (Geylang Serai)

 Dear fellow urbansketchers,

For this Saturday's adhoc sketchwalk, I am suggesting we visit part of Paya Lebar. It should be fun trying to capture the preparation and celebration of the upcoming Hari Raya Pusa. I did a walk through today and took some pictures of the Malay Village, the bazaar and Joo Chiat Shopping centre area. These are potential areas for us to sketch and record the celebrative atmosphere.

For those who want to stay beyond lunch, we can walk down Joo Chiat road or Onan road. Both have plenty to see and EAT! So if the heat gets too crazy, there are always plenty of kopitiams for you to chill out.

Lastly, I hope we can do some sharing, exhange of ideas & techniques along the way instead of leaving it to the end of the session. Ask Don, Marvin & Madhu lots of questions coz they are very good. We can play some drawing games, swap painting materials and have a bit of fun to loosen things up.

Meeting Time: 9.30am (Look out for any last minute changes)
Meeting Place: Paya Lebar MRT control station
Contact Number: 97923622
