More Sketches from Sketchcrawl @ Little India

We chanced upon this long back alley because of the pigeons. Lots and lots of pigeons every where. The back doors are often used by the shops and restaurants for the delivery of goods and garbage disposal. Still a pretty lane to look at.

This is another 5-foot-way sketch I did. Many colourful floor tiles with intricate designs adorn this long corridor. The weather was also getting intense so the shade from this corridor was a much needed respite.

Sketchcrawl @ Little India

We met this morning at Farrer Park train station for our Little India sketch crawl. This is my 1st sketchcrawl with the Singapore gang. While sitting at the coffee shop waiting, I saw how the early morning sun was falling on the buildings surrounding the substation. It was simply magical.

Jago Close for Lunch

Jago Close for Lunch
Back to Jago Close again - with a vengeance. We ordered half a (steamed) chicken just for 2 of us - my wife and myself. Then I suddenly remembered what Drew said to me once, "Don, why do I have a feeling that you are always eating?" I beg to differ. I am not always eating but I blogged about my meals a lot, both on Bloggers and Facebook. Singaporeans barely stop eating and everywhere we go, there is always a coffee shop somewhere. It would always be filled with people munching on something; it is either Mee Pok or Cha Kuey Teow!! Eating is a pass time here!! And it is a blessing to eat too!

SAM Open House during CNY

Since I'm back, I haven't visit any local musuem at all. So taking the opportunity of free entry on the open house during Chinese New Year, I packed my stuff and headed out to Singapore Art Museum. It was an easy ride because everyone else has gone visitation. The streets were quiet and not congested like usual. At the lobby, we were greeted warmly and then we heard loud clangings and drums - there was a lion dance performance in conjunction with a Calligraphy demonstration event thingy. That's new! Then we went around to catch the exhibits. You may read more by visiting SAM website. The show I enjoyed most was Wu Guan Zhong's permanent collection. His journey to become an artist was very inspirational too. We settled down to take a break after 2 hours wandering in the museum. I found a spot to practice sketching a building and I chose to draw this exterior view. :D

Everything about Hong Kong is great, except the bad air, congestion and the traffic. There was this one time when we came down from Victoria Peak, we almost choked to death when a bus drove pass us. Then we remembered how the air was really good up in the peak. We hurried back to the hotel for fear that we would suffocate.

Sketch Hong Kong

Finally I got to visit Hong Kong again after like more than 10 years -- I was on a transit visit in 1995 en route to the US for a company training. At that time I spent about 3 days in Hong Kong and got only a glimpse of the place. This time I was there for 9 days and I only manage to get a glimpse of the fragrant harbor. There is so much to see and so much to do and too much to eat. I need more time to walk and sketch at the same time. Maybe I should get a job in Hong Kong so I could live there for like 2 years? Well let's see. In the mean while here's one of the pages from my sketchbook.
