House of Timms

A sketch of the House of Timms at Wheelock Place. I have eaten there twice and I doubt if I would be back there for food, drinks maybe.

Sketches from the REACH Pre-Budget Dialogue Session

A sketch of Neo, the cameraman and some participants during the REACH pre-budget dialogue session at the 17th floor in the MCYS* building at Thomson Road. 15.12.2010. Mr Neo was, of course, aware that I drew him and he seemed to like it. His fellow photographer wanted to be sketched too! Sadly, the photographer was moving about a lot and was seldom in front of me, but rather, behind me!

It was hosted by Dr. Amy Khor, a deputy secretary from the Ministry of Finance and the REACH team.

A woman named Adelaide had stood up and spoke on mental health issues as did many many other people. The session went well overtime. There was a wide diversity of views. There were, of course, the few usual self-important people who were there to 'score' points. Ugh.

Here is a sketch of Rachel Lin, the reporter from the Straits Times. She had a reporter's spiral notebook (it says so on the cover!) and a voice recorder which recorded the event.

Pigment ink and watercolours. Uni pigment ink pens, Van Gogh watercolours. 150mm x 210mm sketches (for the first and third). A-Zone A5 sketchbook.

101225_sketchwalk_vivo

The upcoming sketchwalk in December will take place on X'mas day!

This will be our last sketch walk of the year! All are welcome to join us for our upcoming sketchwalk happening next saturday, 25th Dec, 2010. We will be meeting at the main lobby of Vivo City between Bakerzin and National Geographic stores at 11am. Interesting locations to sketch will be the water fountain area, Vivo's main facade, the cruises, the view of Sentosa and the roof top pool garden where there is a huge Xmas tree! Finally, we will meet 2pm at Harbourfront's 3rd floor Food Court for a show and tell session plus food and drink of course.

For this special X'mas sketchwalk, Edric Hsu will be in-charge and if you are lost in the city on the X'mas day, call Edric at 96358132.

sketching in class

101208_bike

Michael Lum, a visiting architect loaned his folding bike for my drawing class on Thursday. Only a few students in my class made an attempt to draw the beautiful folding bike. I did three quick part-detail sketches in the class.

A Brompton bicycle costs around S$2,000 imported from UK and there are faithful followers in Singapore.

Day out @ Cheung Chau Island, HK

Spent my saturday afternoon visiting the very quaint Cheung Chau island south west of HK island. Fishing is still one of the main livelihood of the islanders. Here there are no cars but just bicycles & tricycles for getting around. Life feels generally slower too. I like the fresh air too. More information about Cheung Chau here.

Packaged trip to Jeju Island, Korea & Shanghai

My sketch tools & sketchbook
Packing for the trip finally after much procrastination and clearing my work. For sketchwalks I am always bringing too many stuff in my bag... it is like a security blanket. At the back for your mind, I would always thought, maybe I need this or that then and then. You never know. Eventually I am carrying too many stuff in my bag. This time round, I decided to repack everything for my trip, carrying just my favorite pens and then a spare each. LOL! There I go again. I am not like Andrew who only carries the bare essentials in his cutesy Muji carrier, or James who runs around barely carrying anything except his brush pen; now he is not even wearing his glasses. Traveling light is the motto. Still I end up what you see above; 1 watercolor pad with only 2 papers left, another A5 sized watercolor notebook, and a sketchbook Marvin gave me as a souvenir! (Thanks Marvin, remember to send me your address so I could send out a hand painted postcard to you).

Well I hope it is not too cold to sketch. But I am gonna enjoy the well deserved trip!! :D

Thian Hock Keng Temple at Telok Ayer Street. We had a huge turn out at about 50 people for the sketchwalk. It was a blast! I needed to take care of my 20 students, so only managed to complete one piece. 200X400mm, ink, coffee and watercolours. Group photo by Carol Lim.
